Rowie
Rowie is a new volunteer at Homebirth Victoria. She comes from a primary teaching background, but since birthing her own daughters has been on a trajectory of obsessing over all things birth related. Rowie completed birth and postpartum doula trainings and currently lives on the Surf Coast with her family. She has been involved in advocacy work for improving maternity care systems that are accessible to women and families living in Victoria.
Favourite labour and birth song
I love listening to the vast array of songs couples choose for their labour playlists – anything that has sentimental meaning that really gets the oxytocin flowing are incredible.
If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?
I would love to sit in circle with First nations midwives from thousands and thousands of ofyears ago, to listen to their wisdom about birthing on country and practices that honoured the sacredness of birth. That would be incredible.
Fun fact about yourself
I am a sucker for good design – always enchanted with beautiful design publications, and I even studied architecture for 3 years.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose?
We made the move to the coastal country beach 2 years ago which I absolutely love; the slower pace of life, the deep exhale all our nervous systems took, the small community living. I do dream about living somewhere with warmer water and more sunshine all year around though, I don’t think we would ever actually move. My mum was born in Italy, so I also dream of moving the family over there for a few years to immerse myself in the culture and language, if the opportunity ever arises.
